The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to tertiary institutions.

The examination body on Sunday explained that the decision was to ensure that the Senate of Universities perform their statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, at the policy committee meeting.

The statement, signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.

“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any  inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions.

Police on Friday have identified the man who used a hired lorry to kill at least 84 people in a terrorist attack during Bastille Day celebrations in Nice, France, as a well known French-Tunisian criminal.

The man was shot by police after he deliberately drove at a packed street of spectators, killing at least 84 and wounding many more.

According to AFP, the perpetrator was a local 30-year-old career criminal who was born in Tunisia before moving to France.

His 19 tonne lorry had zigzagged through crowds massing on the Promenade des Anglais on Thursdaynight, killing anyone he could.

After being stopped by armed police, who fired bullets into the lorry’s windscreen, the so far unnamed man exchanged fire with officers using a 7.65pistol, before being shot dead.

The attack, which comes eight months and a day after Isis gunmen and suicide bombers killed 130 people in Paris, appeared so far to be the work of a lone assailant.

"People went down like ninepins," Jacques, who runs Le Queenie restaurant on the seafront, told France Info.

"I saw people go down," bystander Franck Sidoli, who was visibly shocked, told Reuters at the scene. "Then the truck stopped, we were just five metres away. A woman was there, she lost her son. Her son was on the ground, bleeding."

The fact that the killer was known to the authorities will be of grave concern to those trying to prevent terrorist attacks in France.

Following the deadly Terrorist attack in Nice, France on Thursday night where a man used his truck to kill over 80 people before being shot dead by police, the United Nations and World leaders such as U.S President Barack Obama and the President of France François Hollande have condemned the attacks.

The United Nations Security Council released a statement condemning the attacks "The members of the Security Council condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric and cowardly terrorist attack." 

French President Francois Hollande said that the incident had "all the elements to be called a terrorist attack". 

"France has been hit on the day of celebration. This is a form of sabotage. Human rights are not respected by these fanatics," he said. "We will further strengthen our actions in Iraq and in Syria. We will continue striking those who attack us on our own soil."

US President Barack Obama issued a statement condemning what he said appeared to be "a horrific terrorist attack". 

"I have directed my team to be in touch with French officials, and we have offered any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice," he said. "We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack."

Speaking at an Asia-Europe summit in Mongolia, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: 

"All of us who have come together at the ASEM summit are united in our feeling of disbelief at the attack of mass murder in Nice. Germany stands in the fight against terrorism at France's side, united with many, many others. I am convinced that, despite all the difficulties, we shall win this fight."  

Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, said: 

"It is a tragic paradox that the victims of the attack were people celebrating liberty, quality and fraternity. We will stand united with the families of victims, the French people and the government in the fight against violence and hatred."
